"Mauritian Way: You are what you eat" is about the
Mauritian food and its eating culture. I choose this topic for my web presence
assignment because I believe that Mauritian people love to eat but they do have
a wrong eating habit. That is we are keener to fast food rather than having a well-balanced
meal. Even I love eating but I do control my diet but not all of us do it.
People need to be aware of the consequences of not having a proper eating
habit. Therefore using platforms of the Web 2.0 I have been able to voice out
what I personally think. Web 2.0 offers a variety of quick and easy platforms
where we can say what we want. It reaches a wider population rather than any
other means.
The web 2.0 is all about latest revolutionary means of
creating, sharing, modifying any data online. It is focusing more on the ease
of use for people. This two way communication platforms give the possibility to
the author and the audience to interact easily. Web 2.0 consists of several
platforms such as social networks, video sharing sites, blogs, wikkis, web
applications and many others. This allows people to interact with other users
compared to the web 1.0 which was a read-only web. The web 2.0 keeps on
evolving and giving people more opportunities and more facilities. The IT world
is definitely evolving at a high speed. The introduction of the web 3.0 is not
far. For my assignment I use a blog for
my central node and my contributing nodes are: a Facebook page, a twitter account
and a YouTube account.
I find it an easier way of saying what I want through a
blog. WordPress.org defines a blog as, “features diary-type commentary and
links to articles on other Web sites, usually presented as a list of entries in
reverse chronological order.” In short a blog is more like a personal diary
which is online, a place where you can share everything you want like pictures,
videos, and any other information and one of its main advantages is that it is
free of cost. Eblogger gives you the facility to customise you blog however you
want. For my blog, I used a simple template. I played more on the visual aid
like I used many pictures and colours. I have also used a bold and italic typography.
I find it more convenient for my blog and a bit girly. Concerning my picture,
some of them I took personally and some I pick up from the web itself. My blogs
target the whole mass; therefore I used a simple language which can be easily
understood by a child aged 10 and even a professional adult.
My first contributing node is a Facebook page. Webopedia
defines Facebook as, “a social networking site (SNS) that connects people with
friends and others who work, study and live around them.” Facebook cannot be
explained in a simpler way. Nowadays Facebook has become a culture among the
whole population. Created in February 2004, Facebook has now reached an average
of 800 million active users. Taking these statistics into consideration, this
is surely a platform which can reach a maximum of people. On my Facebook page, I
talked more about the main dishes consume in Mauritius. It consists mostly of
pictures. Facebook does not really give you the opportunity to customise your
page fully like you cannot use different typography or other templates. Due to
this disadvantage I could not use a Facebook page as my central node. You have
to use the basic format which is not so creative. Facebook is an easy way of
communicating with a larger population thus I choose it to one of my
contributing nodes.
My second contributing node is a twitter account. Twitter
has become the most promising “a very popular instant messaging system that
lets a person send brief text messages up to 140 characters in length to a list
of followers.” (PC Mab.com, 1996-2012). In short twitter is social network
where you can tweet anything you want in just 140 characters. I have used
twitter as my second contributing node because it is an easy way share your
daily experiences. It is short, quick and easy. It also helps you to get
instant information on people you following. Each time he tweeted something,
you get a notification. In my twitter
account I not only tweet my daily experiences but also some quotes and advices
related to my topic.
My third and last contributing node is a YouTube account. A YouTube
account is where you can share videos online. I choose it as my contributing node because it
has been a great source of information for me. I came across numerous videos
which would surely help in relation to my blog. I have shared videos that can
help people having a healthy life even though life is more hectic now. People
are now busier with their work or other responsibilities thus they do not
really have time to take care of themselves. Therefore these videos will surely
help them in the future.
By creating all these nodes, I find out that the web 2.0 is
definitely an easy way to pass a message to the population. It is not
restricted to any age group. The web 2.0
gave the possibility to link my central node and my 3 contributing together.
Due to this, “Mauritian way: You are What You eat” did passed the message to
its viewers. xoxo
